Playing Salmon Run with friends in Splatoon 3 can be a blast. Teaming up allows for better coordination and communication, making taking down those menacing Salmonid hordes much more manageable. However, the process of getting a group together isn’t immediately obvious for new players. Here I’ll walk through the steps required to play Salmon Run with friends in Splatoon 3.
An Overview of Salmon Run
For those unfamiliar, Salmon Run is a co-op PvE game mode where 2-4 players work together to collect Power Eggs from enemy Salmonids while defending the Egg Basket. Waves get progressively more difficult as you take on tougher bosses. Successfully collecting enough eggs during the limited time will net your crew rewards at the end.
Teamwork is key, as reviving downed teammates and providing support fire can mean the difference between success and failure. Having some friends to strategize with makes a massive difference compared to playing with random matchmaking.

Playing with Friends – Using Rooms
If you want to make sure you and your friend(s) are all on the same team, one of you needs to create a team. To create a room, open the lobby menu, select the friends tab, and press Y. You can set up a password if you’d like to allow only certain friends. Without a password, any friend will be able to join. Once everyone enters the room, select ready to set it up and play. Rooms can consist of two, three, or four players (including yourself).
You can also send a notification to everyone on your friend list saying that you have a room open. Friend notifications will appear in the lobby. You can walk up to them and select to join. Its possiible however, that this notification can be several minutes old, and the room doesnt exist or is already filled by the time you find it. We think the best method is by checking the friends list in the lobby menu as that one is updated in real-time.
Salmon Run Online with Friends
Playing Salmon Run with friends works the same way as noted in the previous two sections. However, since everyone will always be on the same team, you won’t really need to create a Salmon Run room unless you’re only looking to play with specific friends by using a password or by making a room of only two or three. Make sure youre playing Freelance to be able to earn rewards and get paid for your jobs. Selecting Private Jobs with friends is different and explained in the next section.
