Hey fellow divers! I’ve been playing Dave the Diver recently and man that Mantis Shrimp boss fight can be a real pain in the fins! After getting knocked around countless times I finally figured out how to beat this boxing crustacean. Here’s my detailed guide to help you conquer this challenging boss battle.
Finding the Mantis Shrimp Boss
Before we dive into the fight mechanics. here’s how to actually find this punchy fellow
- Progress through the main story until you meet Sato (who introduces the Marinca app)
- Wait for a stormy night
- Look for a white vortex between 0-50 depth
- Make sure you have Udo’s new gloves equipped (required for the fight)
Pro Tip: Since night diving takes away 1/3 of restaurant time, maybe plan this fight when your restaurant isn’t super busy!
Preparation Before the Fight
Listen up! Before you jump into this boxing match, here’s what you’ll need:
- A high-damage weapon (Sniper Rifle works great!)
- Extra oxygen tanks if possible
- Good swimming speed upgrades
- Full health
- Strong nerves (trust me, you’ll need ’em!)
Boss Fight Strategy
Phase 1: Basic Pattern
- Position yourself on the left side just below the boss
- Wait for the left-hand punch
- Quick-swim up when his eyes are exposed
- Take your shot!
Phase 2: The Super Punch Counter
When you damage him enough, he’ll do this fancy move:
- He’ll jump back
- Creates a water current pushing left
- A lever appears in top-left corner
- Pull that lever down FAST
- Yellow object moves to center
- Boss punches object = vulnerable state
- BLAST THOSE EYES!
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Don’t swim above the shrimp (you’ll get slammed into ceiling)
- Don’t waste ammo shooting anywhere except the eyes
- Don’t get pushed into those nasty spikes
- Don’t panic when the camera zooms in (you can still move!)
Tips and Tricks
-
Oxygen Management
- There’s only one oxygen tube in arena
- Look for yellow chests with portable tanks
- Fast swimming burns oxygen faster
-
Positioning
- Stay left side when possible
- Keep eye on those spike walls
- Use scooters for quick repositioning
-
Combat Tips
- Be patient! Don’t get greedy with shots
- One good hit is better than missing multiple times
- Save your sprint for dodging attacks
Rewards for Beating the Boss
After you show this boxing shrimp who’s boss, you’ll get:
- Mantis Shrimp meat
- New recipe: “Boiled Mantis Shrimp with Soy Paste”
- Shiny Marinca card
- Bragging rights (obviously!)
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you’re struggling, here are some quick fixes:
- Getting pushed into spikes too much? Stay further left
- Running out of ammo? Watch for ammo containers after big attacks
- Low on oxygen? Bring multiple portable tanks
- Can’t time the lever pull? Start moving during the camera zoom
Final Thoughts
Look, I know this fight can be super frustrating (took me like 5 tries!), but once you get the rhythm down, it’s actually pretty fun! Just remember – patience is key, and don’t get discouraged if you fail a few times. Every diver has been there!
Remember the basic loop:
Dodge → Wait for opening → Shoot eyes → Handle super punch → Repeat
Keep at it, and soon you’ll have yourself some tasty Mantis Shrimp sushi! If you’re still having trouble, drop a comment below and we can talk strategy.
Good luck out there, divers!
How To Find Mantis Shrimp Boss
If youre just starting out in Dave The Diver, itll take you quite a long time to get to this boss. After progressing the main story a little, youll get to meet an NPC named Sato. Hell unlock the Marinca app for you where you can get cards for every fish you catch, and the rarity of the card is the same as the fish you catch.
Once you unlock this and get a stormy night, Sato will come to your boat and tell you that a rare boss has been sighted in the waters. Youll have to dive on the same night to find the boss. Although, the first time this happens, youll face a boss called Truck Hermit Crab. The second time will be where Mantis Shrimp appears.
If you dive at nighttime, one-third of the time will be taken away from the restaurant, so youll earn less on that day.
As you dive on a stormy night, youll have to look for a white vortex that can spawn anywhere between the depth of zero to 50. You can enter the vortex to face the Shrimp, but keep in mind that youll need heavy artillery if you want to defeat it without having to restart the battle multiple times.
Moreover, these bosses only start appearing after you get the new gloves from Udo since you need to pick up heavy items in these fights.
