Cuyahoga Falls is home to many great local restaurants but one of the most underrated spots is A Plus Crab. Located on 738 Howe Ave this casual Cajun seafood restaurant specializes in delicious and messy seafood boils. As soon as you see the big old crab on their storefront, you know you’re in for a treat.
My first experience at A Plus Crab was nothing short of amazing. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a lively, pirate ship atmosphere. The interior decor definitely matches the Cajun seafood theme with murals of crabs, lobsters, and boats all around. After being seated, our server walked us through the menu and gave spot-on recommendations since it was our first time.
We started off with an order of crab ragoons and hushpuppies, which were served steaming hot and super tasty. But the real star of the show was the seafood boil bags. I ordered the A+ Special which came with a mix of shrimp, clams, sausage, potatoes and corn in their A+ seasoning. Let me tell you, that A+ seasoning lives up to its name! It was an amazing blend of garlic, lemon, and spice that resulted in absolute seafood perfection.
The great service continued throughout our meal, with our server refreshing drinks and making sure we had everything we needed. By the end, our table was a delicious mess of seafood shells and melted butter. It was one of the most fun and flavorful dining experiences I’ve had in awhile.
Why A Plus Crab Stands Out
There are a few key reasons this local spot has earned its glowing reviews and loyal regulars:
Quality and Freshness
All of the seafood served at A Plus Crab is high quality and fresh. You can tell they take pride in sourcing great ingredients to create the foundation of their boils and other menu items. The oysters, mussels, clams and more taste like they just came out of the ocean.
Cajun Flavors
In addition to fresh seafood, the Cajun-inspired flavors really shine at A Plus Crab. Their seasoning blends pack some heat while also being well-balanced. They offer options from mild to extra hot so you can customize to your preferences.
Cooking Method
Traditional seafood boils originated in Louisiana and involve boiling seafood in seasoned broth. This cooking method infuses everything with flavor and keeps it tender. A Plus Crab has perfected the boil technique
Fun Experience
Eating boiled seafood is messy by nature, but the casual environment makes it easy to have fun. With bibs, wet wipes and wash stations, you can dig in without worry. It’s a lively spot with good music and drinks too.
Customer Service
The staff is friendly, patient and happy to offer recommendations if you’re new to Cajun boils. They aim to make it an enjoyable experience for all.
Menu Highlights
With so many tempting options, it’s hard to narrow down must-try items from the A Plus Crab menu. Here are some of my favorites:
-
A+ Special Boil – This signature boil includes a pound of shrimp, clams, sausage, potatoes and corn in their A+ seasoned broth. It’s a perfect sampling of their boil expertise.
-
Snow Crab Legs – Sweet, tender snow crab legs boiled to perfection. Get them on their own or as part of a combo.
-
Lobster Tails – Buttery, meaty lobster tail is a nice splurge. Go for the tail only or add to your boil.
-
Fried Oysters – Plump local oysters fried golden brown and served with hushpuppies. A tasty appetizer.
-
Beignets – No Louisiana-style meal is complete without beignets. A Plus Crab’s are pillowy soft and dredged in powdered sugar.
-
Crab Ragoons – Savory and creamy crab rangoon is hard to resist. Great way to kick things off.
No matter what you order, you really can’t go wrong. Just come hungry!
Tips for Making the Most of Your Visit
As a big fan of A Plus Crab, I’ve gathered some tips to make sure you have the best experience:
-
Go with a group – Boils are fun, shareable meals perfect for gatherings with family or friends. Plus you get to sample more menu items.
-
Pack a bib – Things will get messy, so wear the bibs provided and have wet wipes on hand. It’s all part of the experience.
-
Order a variety – Each seafood has its own flavor, so mix up your proteins. Sausage, potatoes and corn round it out.
-
Customize the heat level – The seasoning has a kick but you control how spicy. I recommend extra hot!
-
Get an appetizer – Crab rangoon and hushpuppies make great starters to your meal.
-
Save room for beignets – You can’t leave without trying the pillowy fried dough coated in powdered sugar.
-
Make reservations on weekends – This spot gets busy, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Plan ahead.

Bring a cooler for leftovers – Chances are high you’ll have delicious seafood leftovers to take home after.
